Warren, Texas is a delightfully buggy, muggy country town north of Kountze, Texas and just south of Woodville. Why so buggy and muggy? It’s situated in the thick of the Big Thicket National Preserve. Technically, Kountze is more of a “home” to the national forest I suppose, but the wildlife is just as wild in Warren. (Scroll below for more info and click to zoom in on the image)
This poster is done with a light green color scheme with tons of trees in the background; a sea foam green tint and accent colors of yellow and light tan also worked in here . A vintage, aged texture adorns the edges and most of the top, with cracks along the center. The tagline reads “Pretty as a Magnolia in May -Warren.” Magnolias can be seen near and far (like just about any other ecological, floral, whatever in the area), though Woodville claims more notoriety for the magnolias. A ribbon at the bottom, flanked by two magnolias, contains the display of “Over 1200 Different Species of Man-Eating Mosquitos.” Front and center is a jar with glares and shines. Instead of fireflies, though, we have a huge mosquito. I could have easily put fireflies or lady bugs or love bugs for sure. But mosquitos…man, they’ll do some damage around Warren. So it’s a twist on a Southern romanticized depiction and the colors give a little nostalgia and fantastical glow.
Warren is a friendly town with small schools, smaller neighborhoods and almost 5 whole roads. That overpass is a beauty! One of my very best friends moved to Warren just before high school so I wanted to hold a grudge against this town, but I just can’t. It’s too pretty and folksy. It’s a hop, skip and a bogey away from Wildwood resort community that has a beautiful golf course of which the Warren Warriors high school golf team has called home. Warren doesn’t have much by way of restaurants, claims to fame, theatres or museums; nor do the citizens know what a “traffic jam” really is – unless they head to Lumberton about 7 AM.
